Hi Fellow Squadlings

"With reference to the examples given in LILA, explain dynamic and
static quality and the relationship between them."

So perhaps we should start from the basics and work up from there?

Pirsig has posited that Quality is the root or source of reality and that
Quality and Value are identical. He has identified the metaphysical
division of Quality into two complemetary parts - Static and Dynamic
Quality.

Static patterns of Value (SQ) seem to be most commonly identified
with those "things" which make up the phenomenal world. Pirsig has
identified a further metaphysical division of SQ as Inorganic,
Biological, Social and Intellectual patterns and states that this
division is exhaustive, nothing is left out. No "thing" that is, only
Dynamic Quality, which cannot be described.

Dynamic Quality may not be describable or definable but that hasn't
stopped Pirsig (and others) from trying. For much of the time Pirsig
uses simile and metaphor to try to identify the essence of DQ - the
hot stove, the new record, the person that feels good in the strange
hotel in the hurricane etc. He also refers to DQ as the "cutting edge
of reality" and makes a reference to DQ in the form of the "Quality
Event".

It is the "Quality Event" (QE) that seems to be the link between
Static and Dynamic Quality. It is described as the interaction
between patterns of value and it is this interaction that creates
pattern awareness and hence experience. It would also seem to be
the the means by which new static patterns come into being. So the
QE/awareness/experience are all (forms of ?) DQ and the means by
which SQ progresses from one state to another.

I'll leave it there for the moment.
