BJ Trach: Maybe I can help. Since you're only a third of the way through
Wilber and I'm nearly done (53/65ths), I'll pretend to be the expert. But
seriously, you'll probably have the answers if you just keep reading.

I think that Kosmos and Spirit are roughly equal to static quality and
Dynamic Quality.

Kosmos is pretty much what you'd think and not too terribly different than
cosmos or universe. It is the world of "things", which are a manifestations
of Spirit. Spirit is the One and the Kosmos is the many. The Kosmos is Form,
while Spirit is Emptyness. Of course we're talking about a special kind of
Emptyness. Pirsig refers to Dynamic Quality itself as the "undifferentiated
aesthetic continuum". It would be clumsy and not quite right, but just to
make the point, you could say that the Kosmos is the "differentiated
continuum of static quality". Its like the un-manifest, the not yet
differentiated Spirit pours itself out into the Kosmos. The world of
"things" is made of Spirit just as static quality emerges out of Dynamic
Quality. Am I making sense?
