Jon - glad to have you back, Jon! - Roger, and MoQer's all.
I've been lurking for quite a while now. Like Jon, I have been exploring
other avenues. Thich Nhat Hanh has written some extraordinary books I have
only recently discovered and I have been mining them for information and
trying to practice. Somehow, Pirsig took a back seat, although Nhat Hanh
comes very close to the practical application of the MoQ, I think.
I have been rather desultorily following the MD discussion, but this quote
by Dinty Moore from his book "The Accidental Buddhist" sums up my attitude
pretty well:
"I can't say for sure that there is a God, but neither can I rationally
prove that there is not. So I'm not going to worry about it. If there is a
God, I should live my life according to principles of kindness, compassion
and awareness, and if there is no God, well then I should live my life
according to principles of kindness, compassion, and awareness anyway."
Amazing how dense I am. It only took 41 years to figure out the obvious.
BTW, Roger - replacing God with science is only replacing one religion with
another.
