Hello Can, Mary, Rich, Horse, Marco, Willem and all,
I'm just back from a week in the UK, and pleased to see the conference
idea slowing building up steam.
First, a warm welcome to Can, who is
> an assistant professor of industrial design using ZMM and LILA as text
> books in courses.
It's great to see Pirsig being taken serious in academia.
Can has suggested Turkey as a venue for a MoQ conference. This would
certainly be very convenient for me personally. We now have a growing
number of good suggestions:
Netherlands (Willem already mentioned how much of Lila was written on
the Dutch canals)
New Jersey (nr. Pirsig's home)
Montana (the focus of ZAMM)
Turkey (the land where Aristoteles, or Homeros lived)
Another inspiring venue would be Benares, but this is probably not
practical.
I suspect that the main criterion for settling a venue is going to be
money, i.e. who we can find to host/sponsor us. The other important
requirement is to find among ourselves a main organiser to handle
arrangements at the prospective conference site. Any volunteers?
As I mentioned before, we now also need session organisers, who will
solicit papers etc. for the various sessions. I am willing to take on
organising a session on Causality and Thermodynamics (maybe also
including evolution).
Who else?
One thing I would especially like to see is a session dedicated to Ken
Clark.
Mary, this occurred to me even before you wrote. How would you like to
be involved?
Do you think something on cosmology and evolution of the universe would
be appropriate?
Jonathan
