I'm a 1975 graduate of Montana State University at Bozeman and though
I've not been an active alumni in any sense if you decide to explore
that direction I'll be glad to do what I can. Would suggest the English
Dept would be where to start because irreguardless of the acceptance of
his philosophy Pirsig is a "best selling" author and colleges alway like
to claim their contribution in the success of people who graced their
halls. I also spent a great deal of time in the Art Dept and though I
did not know the DeWeese's personally, he was still teaching then. He
and my ceramics instructor were the two of the oldest members of the art
faculty at that time so I might be able to backtrack there.
For those interested the MSU website is :http://www.montana.edu/ . The
picture on the main page is looking northeast from the campus over
Montana Hall at a portion of the Belt Mountains known locally as the
Bridgers after Jim Bridger , an early mountain man. These are not the
mountains of Pirsig ZaMM hike. The Deweese's live south and east of the
Campus in one of the canyons running into the Gallatin Mountains. If you
go to the aerial view here: http://www.montana.edu/html/msu-view.html ,
they live off the right hand edge of the photo about the width of the
photo to the right.
Enjoy
