Platt,
What relevance are memes to the MOQ ?
MOQ, Biological Patterns of Value, its Value lies in the ability to grow and
survive.
MOQ 's delineation is failrly consistent with common cultural understanding.
So Pirsig did not go into the inner mechanism of the social level, so writes
M. Hettinger.
Pirsig did not define its working. It is there where memetics comes into play.
As I started this thread, it is memetics who will do the honours. If I was a
logical mathematic I had presumably started using logical differential calculus.
Luckily for myself that is, I did not !
If Pirsig did not define how the social levels work, it is up to us to find how they
does. But I have to say, that was not my intention, that was not the major
reason why I joined this list. I have written an essay, A Solipsistic View On
Memetics and in order to find more info about Solipsism in the first place, I
stumbled across a tread MD Solipsism, DQ and Evolution.
I asked the writer of the tread to help me out. Jonathan Marder gladly offered
his help and we had for some time a private discussion.
During that, it seemed to the both of us, that we had some ideas in common.
So, he invited me over to post the essay upon the list of MOQ to see the res-
pons. But, untill now, I did not.
Of course, I would liked first to know who you all were, how the list works etc...
Therefor I started the tread...and see where we end up. But no regrets !!!
But back to your question...
Roger wrotes on 22 sep 1999 " the magic of the MOQ is that it values not one
truth, but quality, it relentlously encourages to try to define reality in the highest
quality possible."
Memes coud be the entities, or the units of information by which we can explain
how Pirsig social levels of value are working.
If the mental constructions of ourselves contribute to the notion of Quality
needed to be in harmony with Pirsig 's view, we need to grasp this chance.
I came here to seek information and see now...
And yes, MOQ is in itself a meme, look at me I am already addicted. But,
you too are infected, memes have a hold on you now. You will be never quite
the same...
And by the way, all who did contributed to the discussion about memes so
far, should not be unbecoming in the Memetic Discussion List.
I am grateful to be in your mids,
PS, I will be gone for a few days, back on Monday 23 Oktober.
I do work you know...
Regards,
Kenneth
