Greetings,
Roger,
I am an empiricist. I reject the fundamental duality of subject and object,
mind and matter. I suggests that the most empirical way to evaluate reality
is as a stream of dynamic and flowing pure experience and the wake of static
abstractions derived from this experience.
Mind/matter/subject/object/today/yesterday/internal/external are all just
divisions and patterned combinations derived from such experiences. But you
know this.
To your list of dualist commonly shared characteristics you could add
static/dynamic and hence the MOQ, but that, of course, would simply add one
more strawman. For the last time, (honestly), I am not 'continuing to deny
these commonly shared characteristics of Western
philosophy'. I am continuing to deny that they constitute either a
metaphysics or a family of metaphysics. Have I really not been crystal clear
on this?? Am I not saying for the umpteenth time that I affirm the subject
object dichotomy? And, incidentally, your mother was a hamster and your
father smelt of elderberries.
Glenn, methinks you have misunderstood the rules of the forum. You are
supposed to tell me that I am an ignorant, stupid git with no understanding
and a deeply flawed metaphysic which I neither understand, nor realise I
have. Yet here you are agreeing with me. Stop it at once! But seriously. I
think your observation that Pirsig is a recovering SOM'ist is entirely
accurate. It is also true of most on this forum and accounts for the vacuity
of their objections against me. In my post to Bo I called it
subjectobjectivitis and one of its main side effects seems to be believing
that everybody else has the same affliction, even when the evidence is clear
that they do not. A remarkable and fascinating phenomena which I take great
pleasure in probing.
Damn . . . . I should be at a party so am off. . . .
