Kenneth:

I’m sorry but for the life of me I can’t follow your arguments or
understand your questions. Chalk it up to my stupidity.

For example, when you ask what is the moral base of the
inorganic level I can only think of “turtles all the way down” (infinite
regress) because if I were to identify such a moral base your next
question would legitimately be what is the moral base for that
base, ad infinitum.

Or when you say an idea exists as an inorganic entity I can only
assume you refer to pixels on a computer screen or ink
impressions on paper arranged as meaningful symbols because
in the usual sense of word, ideas are no more material than
theories about mind.

Or when you ask if putting the MOQ in the service of a social
organization would be immoral after I quoted the passage from
LILA saying that indeed it would be, I can only wonder why you
ask. The MOQ is a “metaphysics,” not a call to arms; LILA is a
inquiry into morals, not a blueprint for Utopia.

So you can see that my limitations are such as to render me
incapable of responding to you. I can only hope that as you read
further in LILA and other of Pirsig’s writings that some of your
questions will be answered, or that perhaps other contributors to
this site fill the vacuum created by my inadequacy. Sometimes,
regrettably, the chasm between two minds (patterns of value) is
too wide to be bridged.

Platt
