Lila,Great? Actually I think ZaMM is of higher quality than Lila but
history is the ultimate 'art critic', not I. But yes, in my opinion
they're both Art, and my point was that secrets of Art are rarely
accessible through Science. But do I want to go there? Not really,
because I don't have a very high opinion of "art critics" either. But
let focus on the ways of the "science critics" and try to apply it to
your personal experience.

If you were like me when you finished them you had, as a whole, some
vague intuitive sense of rightness, goodness, truthfulness in them. They
struck a chord. They squared ,to a large degree, with your experiences.
But some questions lingered, so you sought the council of others and
eventually were ushered into the halls of the "science critics".

There, using the tools of their trade, they sliced and diced the
paintings into smaller a smaller pieces, pointing out how this pigment
really couldn't or shouldn't be used here, the line here was blurred,
the shadows here too vague, the strokes really quite crude and slowly
over time convinced you that what you bought was a fake, a crude copy, a
rigourously unoriginal piece of garbage. How could you be so dumb! What
possibily could you have seen in this shit?

But what they failed to mention is that these were portraits. Highly
realistic and unflattering portraits of them. And, that to them all Art,
that is 'true' Art, is only painted in the style of the pre-Raphaelites.
Gramma Moses is not Art.

It's all about the power of the priests. Why do you need priests?
Because YOU can't get to heaven without them? Why do you need art
critics? Because YOU can't understand Art without them? Why do you need
science critics? Because YOU can't understand reality without them. Even
the one of most hidebound of human traditions, Christianity, reformed
itself hundreds of years ago by discarding this concept.

How is it that a process that turned your experienced "Good" into "Not
Good" and left no other 'Good' in it's wake, a good process?

Get the picture.
