Unfortunately in the case of the Russian and Cuban revolutions the
spontaniety was quickly snuffed out. And sometimes spontaneous
cooperation can lead to horrible results, like a lynch mob. Thomas
Carlyle warned of the negative side of spontaneous cooperatioin when
he wrote one of my favorite aphorisms: "I do not believe in the
collective wisdom of individual ignorance." So your qualification of
"usually a good way" is well taken.
