Platt
If you haven't read Huston Smith's new book "Why Religion Matters, The
Fate of the Human Spirt in an Age of Disbelief" you will find
discussions of the same PostModern philosophic advances and problems
that Wilbur and Pisig illustrate. His pro-metaphyics arguments are as
compelling as any I've seen. Of course, 'religion" in the title almost
guarantees 'disbelief' reactions, like not reading it, as it nearly did
for me. Couple this with Norman Rockwell's " Each According to the
Dictates of His Own Conscience" illustration of praying people on the
cover and you can almost guarantee science will have to hide it inside a
copy of Darwin, read in the toilet, only when no-one is at home, with
the door locked, and the fan running to cover the groans.
