Dear list,

I'm new to this list and following a few days of a rather voyeuristic
approach to discussion, have finally plucked up the courage to write.

I hope the list doesn't mind me posting for the sole purpose of gaining
self-improvement in my own thoughts. I'm still not completely happy
that I'm 'one of the few' - but I almost feel that I'm staring into a
black hole - aware that within is an enlightening world - but I maybe
need a helping hand (or an almighty push!) to get in. I'm hoping that
anything I post will be dealt with mercilessly in the hope that my
thoughts and feelings will become clearer. Of course if you'd rather
not have the ramblings of a 'MOQ Virgin' - I'll be only to happy to
return to my voyeuristic mode.

I'm a teacher of mathematics - currently advancing towards a doctorate
in the Philosophy of Mathematics Education. A recent vacation provided
work free week and a friend threw a book my way and said "Read this -
you may like it". It was ZMM ...... I became transfixed and felt that
I'd found a missing piece of life - only I hadn't realised that it had
been missing! I'm particularly impressed with Pirsig's apparent
condemnation of barriers - for example the objective/subjective divide -
I'm interested to hear his theories of where quality is situated in
relation to objectivity and subjectivity. I consider the relationship
to be a type of 'reality solution' ...... where objectivity and
subjectivity are the solutes and quality acts as the solvent. One
cannot consider each entity singularly - one has to look at the mix of
the whole solution.

SHOOT ME DOWN!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Paul
