What difference was making, at the Leucippus and Parmenide's times, to discuss about atoms? This is Philosophy. Infinite, maybe useless, beautiful discussions. At those times, the question: "what is matter?" had an underlying question: "How can we control nature?"

I think one underlying question is "Where does our awareness come from?"
