Methinks Pirsig's opinion of which questions are worth answering on his own
MoQ is significantly more interesting than Diana's opinion and, while it is
certainly true that my objections were pretty badly thought out, there is no
doubt that they remain by far the most dynamic and pertinent expressed on
this forum to date. Pirsig seems to agree. Diana feels ignored and slighted
(she never did understand my objections) so she takes it out on Dan's book
by calling it 'crap', on me by calling me an 'idiot' and on Pirsig by
portraying him as being 'no scholar, and . . . neither patient nor thorough
in his works'.
That Pirsig considers it worth reading and commenting on Dan's book and not
on the rather dull, poorly expressed and trite questions raised in Diana's
forum (if he were remotely interested or excited by it he could surely
formulate just one response to the selected question each month, or even
year) is a clear indication of where Pirsig feels the greater quality can be
found and, although one can understand why Diana is annoyed by this, one
would expect her to treat it as a challenge to inject some intellectual
rigour into her own efforts rather than as an invitation to throw her toys
out of the pram.
Elephant. If you look at http://members.tripod.com/~Glove_r/Childcon.htm you
will clearly see that Dan went to considerable trouble to ensure that he had
permission to use the writing of everyone involved. *Diana gave hers!!* Dan
quite properly and generously has stated that he will abide by her more
recent wishes not to publish her work in a printed format, despite this
being his expressed intention from the start. Now you owe Dan an apology.
