Hello Qualicists,
I feel like an eavesdropper sitting here reading your discussions, so I thought
the least I could do was to sign in.
My name is Christopher Galtenberg. I'm a quarter of the way through Lila, so
I'm just going to sit off to the side here for awhile. A brief introduction
before I go...
I'm a philosopher, writer, and engineer, though, by virtue of joining your
group, it seems redundant to say the first part.
I call Portland, Oregon home. I craft short stories. Poetry and essay are my
philosophical format. And I'm a software design and development engineer.
My life's work is the construction of The Fount, the new electronic document,
which will eventually lead to the true e-book. This is the medium I believe
Pirsig and every other fruitful mind has hungered for... a place to store ideas
so that thoughts would never be lost to the winds again. Well, I hope you won't
have to wait much longer.
My current philosophical work is the exploration of The Golden Path. I believe
Robert Pirsig has added one important cornerstone to The Golden Path, that of
Quality. Frank Herbert (from whom the label was culled) explored Evolution and
'the filling of the void with sentience' as part of The Golden Path. Galtenberg
(me) believes that another important aspect is that of The Good Story (I hold
strongly that, at any one time, a person wishes to be reading at least one good
story, wishes to live -inside- of one good story, and has the ability to -write-
one good story). There are more cornerstones to be discovered...
characteristically they are non-obvious, but rich with potential... I hope to
uncover more through this forum.
My current theoretical work is in the area of meaningful effort and Golden
Moments... of taking the magical moments in our life, using them as fuel, and
producing a work which history will wish to preserve (so that the essence
of -you- can be rekindled over the centuries). My founding premise: The
thoughts and inspirations that we receive in a state of peace can eventually be
coalesced into either blueprints or greyprints. Blueprints are obvious, but
Greyprints are even more interesting: they are works considered 'incomplete',
meant to be continued later in life, possibly by others whom the writer has
intrigued. Usually, greyprints are works of art, personal journals,
philosophies... Pirsig's ZAA and Lila are fascinating greyprints, with delicious
empty spaces and blanks to be filled in.
I have a website, www.galtenberg.net. Having said that, I should probably
stroll back to my corner to continue reading. I'll be over here if you need
me...
I'm learning a very important lesson about this lifetime, specifically by
reading Robert's works. The lesson, I believe, is this: The books that have
called out to you -most recently- to be read are the ones that you need to read
_now_. Your reading list needs to be like a stack of trays... last one on is
the first one off. The ones you have waited to read can wait a little longer.
Reading in this fashion is the -only- way to appreciate the coincidences
surrounding you. For life since Quality has just exploded with illuminessence.
Simultaneously, life is settling down to a state of Correctness. And my vision
improves daily.
Good health, good reading, and good discussion to you all...

P.S. I think you can safely add me as a member of your organization... (this
post could be used as my bio.) I'll be around for awhile, and I'll have plenty
to say.
