As i read that statement it reads to me that the "self" is watched by an I
(as in I will, I am) and the multiplicity of selves is an illusion caused by
language not sensation itself, interesting wordplay, but it goes nowhere.

Something to ponder (from Ken Wilber):

If sensation is something I have, I have a self. But who is the I that has
a self? Another self. And who has the sensation of another self? A third
self. How many selves must I postulate?
