The following stuff after Bo's snip may be utter garbage?
But had to try.

Hi Bo.
Interaction - Sensation - Emotion - Reason.
Have you replaced a Platonic allegory with an Aristotelian list?
A motorcycle makes an excellent allegory for meditation. (Maintenance.)
A motorcycle is a product of reason.
Meditation moves one closer to DQ; it also facilitates the utility of DQ.
Reason is facilitated by meditation.
John Locke recognised that every act of reason is mediated by intuition, and
intuition it seems to me is the open utility of DQ.
(Pirsig did this when comparing two of his slips in order to see which had
more value.)
(Those who feel they have never meditated may wish to consider that they do
so every day!)
Resonance - Sympathy - Evocation - Coherence.
Why?
Interaction implies two things are under going action. (SOM)
Sensation implies something is sensing. (SOM)
Emotion has a subjective ring to it. (SOM)
Reason discriminates particulars. (SOM, and the cause of the above.)
Resonance. Pluck a string and; (implicit value: harmonics, self-similarity,
inorganic).
Sympathy. Other strings join in; (raised value: emergent, trans-resonant,
organic).
Evocation. Instrument tuned; (higher value still: trans-sympathetic giant,
social).
Coherence. Play a song. (high utility of DQ, trans-evocative, intellect).
Resonance. Interaction/response to other.
Sympathy. Sensation/agreement/disagreement.
Evocation. Emotion/memory.
Coherence. Reason/logic.
Here there is implicit value and self-similarity.
Nothing happens without engaging the whole - the whole is more than
subjective analysis.
I merely replace motorcycle with violin, and your list with quasi-value
terminology.
It's the value terminology we need, not more Aristotle.
A violin is thought of in SOM as an inanimate artefact subject to objective
laws.
However, we may also recognise that it enjoys a relationship between a
virtuoso and DQ?
(A virtuoso plays well when DQ mediates the patterns of the player and the
played - a Zen archer says that, 'It' fires the arrow.)
If we are going to discuss consciousness we need to do so with explicitly
value centred terms, and an implicit recognition of DQ.
Such terms will not discriminate particulars and therefore reinforce the
illusion that reality is subjective interaction - sensation - emotion -
reason.
Pirsig's levels in his MOQ do not require your modification. Rather, we need
to develop a more value centred language and mode of expressing science as
value. This may effectively be achieved by using more narrative and allegory;
after all, it should come as no surprise that aspects of reality share in the
whole if the whole of reality is Quality.
As an artist yourself, i am very surprised you have not followed this vein in
your own thinking?
Consciousness may be an enfolding of many levels simultaneously, but all
levels may be self-similar iterations of a whole.
Pulling levels apart obscures more than it reveals?
In order to move on, we need to radically brake away from SOM. (At least it
rhymes.)
All the best,
Squonk. :-)
