Bo,

You asked:
> Do we have an agreement?

leaving aside the different opinions about emotions and language, I'd say that a
difference is in the mechanism of the creation of a new level. I think that
when a small group of patterns build a level of their own, there is not a
struggle between the levels. Initially, both the old and the new level gain
value, and only later, "the kid will kill the parent" so to say.

My idea of the division of labor as the basic social event for the development
of the individual/intellectual level responds just to this consideration. The
individual is indeed a danger for the society, nevertheless there must have been
situations in which the society had an advantage from the conditions that made
it possible for the individual to arise. Similarly I see the passage from the
biological to the social level. Sex was good for the biology, but it created the
conditions for communication and thus social life. In both cases, there is a
period in which the *game* is positive for both the contenders. So it can be
well explained the WHY of the creation of a new level.

In your vision, at the contrary, I don't see (correct me if I'm wrong) explained
that *why*. The passage from sensation to emotion to reason you offer seems just
to happen.

About the Greeks, yes, I agree that the passage from the individual to the SOM
happened then. But, as I've already said, the fact that the SOM is the main
intellectual form does not mean it's the only possible one. Of course, when I
say intellect, I'm meaning something different from what's the common (SOMish)
usage of the term. As well as for *social*, the MOQ gives these words a
different context. IMO it's intellectual all what's pertaining the emancipation
from the society. Equalizing intellect with rationality is exactly the SOM
game, and the result is that you have to put all what's not SOMish into another
level. Opening the doors to something else (intuition, art, mysticism....) is
IMHO the correct MOQ view for intellect.

Be Good
