Hey All,
The idea of "Giants" fascinate me. They are one of the things that exist in
MoQ but don't really fit into the SOM. However, it is undeniable that they
exist. I was recently asked by Marco where the brain of a Giant lies. At
what location is the brain of a giant? I think that in a way the question
can't really be answered specifically, but I have an idea.
The idea of a brain is a key weakness of SOM, how can the brain be both an
object and a subject? You can poke at the brain and see that it's there. If
you start cutting away bits of the brain, the subject begins to fade in it's
presence. If you split the hemispheres of the brain, really weird things
start happening to the subject. http://www.viewzone.com/bicam.html When
you introduce chemicals that make slight alterations of the brain, the
subject seems to be altered as well.
Obviously the brain is both subject and object. How does a subject seem so
linked to an object in that the subject itself can be altered by altering
the object that is the brain. It doesn't make sense in SOM. In SOM, the
subject is independent of your brain, subjects and objects are completely
different separate things which are totally unrelated to one another.
However in MoQ, there are subjects and objects, but they are not the be-all
and the end-all of reality. They are both simply representations of patterns
of Quality. The pattern of Quality that is "you" is housed in your brain.
You're the high quality pattern that has occurred from static latch after
static latch of biological evolution that has allowed static latch after
static latch of societal evolution until the recent static latch that is the
intellectual static latch called MoQ was thought of. By testing it and
moving on from it, perhaps another static latch can occur further down the
line.
Anyway, sorry about that. Giants seem to be a societal static latch,
although we're just coming to understand them. They have the pursuit of
quality, in either gaining money, gaining power, expanding or something
else, but also surviving. For no Giant can improve if it doesn't survive.
The Giants I can think of off hand: Countries, Religions, Corporations,
Political groups etc.
I kind of like to think of Giants as organisms, where every cell is a
person. A giant is as different from the individuals within it as we are
from the cells within ourselves. Do they have a brain? I think so. Many
people have many different functions within a giant. Some people are the
definitely the brains behind the Giant, the people who decide what the giant
will do, the parliament within a country, the board of directors of a
company, the king and his council of advisors, etc.
I don't think Giant's are conscious though, still unaware of their own
existence, just the "reptilian brain" at work.
On a side note though, perhaps when the giants become conscious, the next
static latch will occur. Spooky thought. Imagine being a brain cell of a
conscious giant.
Anyway, as I said, Giants fascinate me a lot. I'd love to hear what people
have to say about them.
TTYL
