John,
My yaying of Squonks was more directed toward Glenn. I apologize for the
misunderstanding. But I do have a firm grasp of what you are saying. In
fact, I understand what both sides are saying and I can see you both as
being right; to a point, of course.
An example of this:
'Quality evolves.' Good point.
and Denis,
'judgment evolves, but the value, intrinsically, stays the same.'
Here substitution of the word 'judgment' for the word 'understanding' seems
to do quite well. Please take note that my view of 'understanding' is not
strictly associated with the mental.
'"quality" implies a judgment' = 'Quality' implies an understanding. In my
view this is correct.
Also,
'Judgment is the interaction of patterns, not the patterns themselves.' =
Understanding is the interaction of patterns, not the patterns themselves.
This is also correct in my view.
so where do the two views meet?
'the value, intrinsically, stays the same.' The key I think is to see that
value is not absolutely intrinsic. Nor is it absolutely subjective. In fact
it is Value that comes first creating 'judgement' or 'understanding', in
it's wake.
And since 'the judgment evolves' and judgment is a derivative of Value,
Value evolves.
And finally, Value=Quality, Quality evolves.
and there you have it.
