Hi all, this is a collective effort- sort of
Cozens:
I believe in democracy, Freedom and right of the individual, this is what I
think has come under attack in the US recently.
I've heard this argument before. It never quite sits right with me. Freedom
is Growth from that of lesser Quality. What do you think motivates these
terrorists? A hate of Quality? Aren't they as much of Quality as we are?
Jonathan:
I see the terrorist attack on the USA and all terrorist attacks as
collisions between conflicting social patterns.
Terrorists conflict with social patterns? Yes. Terrorism itself a social
pattern? No. This is not a conflict between social patterns.
MARCO:
It's more than a war: terrorism is a crime against
humankind. Or, in other words, a crime of a blind social pattern against the
basic values of the intellectual level.
Terrorism is rooted as a conflict with social values. It is not against the
Intellectual level, in fact, it is a result of the Intellectual level not
being able to communicate with the social level. It is a result of not
having been given a say or having your say's worth reduced to nothing.
Both terrorism and this cultural immune system society has toward the
intellect are great atrocities. This is a complete switch from the medieval
period in terms of who's punishing who. Let's hope we can survive it.
Marco:
This is not merely a giant against The Giant. ... Not an army against
another army.
Right. This international coalition to wage war against terrorism is, I
think, rediculous. Terrorists don't wear badges that identify themselves
from non-terrorists.
Rasheed:
But you have to remember that many other people of the world see the US as
an enemy.
True. Because Americans were victimized on Tuesday does not mean that
America is innocent. I'm not saying that these people died for a just cause,
it was murder pure and simple. But these actions are a reflection of growing
anti-American sentimentalism in the world as a whole and within America
itself. Anyone thinking why?
Rob D:
I just hope that the Giant responsible for this atrocity is destroyed.
Then there are blood thirsty savages like you.
Horse:
What I fear the most is that the response will be
to reduce all our freedoms in the name of security and to prevent further
outrages. If this is the case then the perpetrators - whoever they are -
will have won.
God how I fear this the same. However, because of things like technology and
the Internet, I don't think freedom of speech will be going anywhere for
awhile.
A Road To Recovery:
Jeremy:
The international open communication as a result of these attacks and more
importantly, the international effort and support of the concepts of
'Freedom' and 'Civilization' are things to be overjoyed by.... America must
wake from it's isolationism.
Mark:
There has to be a framework imposed on global societies to address issues of
injustice and promote a sense of internationalism and multiculturalism.
Amen.
Jack:
What we need is an understanding of each other's realities.
The concepts of 'Freedom' and 'equal rights' can no longer be limited to
single countries. These Morals do not only apply if you are American or
Canadian etc. They are scientifically universal. Thus this International
open communication, which Niels Bohr lobbied for to the UN back in the 40s,
must be maintained and America can no longer Vito everything claiming itself
to be more equal than others. Freedom of speech must be international.
Jeremy.
