legitimate so long as it protects America and its values?

I say:
It is precisely that the defenders of liberty DO set limits to the actions
that they take that gives them their moral superiority. You can't protect a
society that values freedom and the sanctity of life by exterminating the
biological patterns (people) that create the societies that don't.
It makes me think of what Kant said in his Groundwork of the metaphysics of
Morals..
'Rational nature exists as an end in itself. Act as if the maxim of your
action were to become through your will a universal law of nature. Act in
such a way that you always treat humanity [rational nature as such],whether
in your own person or the other person of any other ,never simply as a means
but as an end in itself.'
