For Western readers, a good introduction to Islam is ISLAM TODAY, by Akbar
S. Ahmed. New York: I.B. Taurus, 2001. It is all in the major bookstores.
The author is a Fellow of Selwyn College, at Cambridge, and has been
visiting professor at Princeton and Harvard.
Any book by Albert Hourani or Bernard Lewis is well-worth reading, as well.
