Platt, Rog others...
I like the way you talk to me, I love that (slumbering?) cynisism that i can
taste in both your words. I'm serious about Fromm and serious about Marxism.
I even like marxism! Not the way the ideas of Marx are used. Marx his
perception of dynamic people is not always that well understood! I consider
the morals that are the basis of marxism are noble.
Platt, I'm sorry that you didn't understand what I was trying to say, I
never care who belongs where, I just want you to read Fromm and think again
when you use the word Marxism! No offense, but Marx his ideas and Marxism
are not the same!
>Hi Davor!
>
>You seem to be addressing both Platt and me, but i can't be sure. Rumor is
>that he had to cut off his discussion with you to go out and shoot a dog,
>so i thought I would jump in.
>
>DAVOR:
>Did you guys actually ever read a Fromm book? '....I believe that if you
>read
>Fromm you will understand a lot more of
> yourself and certain ideas and their moral 'validity'.
>
>ROG:
>So much reading to do and so little time.... I am a prolific reader, but,
>like all of us, I am forced to prioritize. When it comes to
>socio-economics
>I decided to prioritize my reading based upon current influence in the
>world
>and quality of life in actual practice. Starting with the best (free
>enterprise global economies), I have made it as far as "serfism", and soon
>hope to get to the real losers "hunter gathering" "nomadic barbarism",
>Nazism", eventually...at the bottom of the heap, I will get to "Marxism."
>Please be patient.
Davor:
That's some ''logical prioritizing'' there Rog, but I won't say anything,
it's your choice!
>Seriously though, does it ever occur to pseudo-intellectuals to actually
>test
>their theories? Oh, thats right, I forgot about those shining beacons of
>hope.... North Korea and Cuba.
>Marxism is an ignorant philosophy of absurd ideals and confused assumptions
>that is the greatest failure of philosophology in the history of mankind.
>But other than that I like it. Please feel free to test new versions of it
>in the Netherlands, and I hope it eventually succeeds. Certainly you can't
>do
>any worse than the other barbarous attempts to violate the free spirit of
>man
>and to ignore the concept of "complex adaptive systems." (Wonder if Fromm
>wrote much on that?)
>
>If -- no, when -- your Netherlands experiment fails, the free democracies
>will bail you out (much to your later resentment, but that's OK, they (ie
>the
>rest of us) will also have produced a new technology to allow the
>simple-minded survivors to communicate a new plot toward social-economic
>de-evolution.
Davor:
I love this, ehm I forgot to tell you that I'm not that infuential and I
don't think I have the power to start a revolution! I have no intention for
this too, I just want to say that it is good for people like you to know
something about Marxism, and my wish is that more people knew more about
Marxism and why Marxism failed. Marxism did not fail because of absurd
ideals and confused assumptions. You could have known that if you read
Fromm, and by the way you could also read Pirsig on this matter, (or did you
and you just don't agree with him)?
And is a free democracy the only way for you?
>DAVOR:
>I'm beginning to believe that every leftist opinion in your eyes is immoral
> per definition! I know that 'left' means something different in the US as
> here in W-Europe(the Netherlands at least!), but why the resentment?
>
>ROG:
>
>BANG! Oops, sounds like Platt got that damn mutt!
>
>I can't speak for him, but I certainly respect leftist, liberal positions.
>I
>think Marxism is goofy, but I have no qualm with the Democratic left. See
>my
>responses yesterday to Wim.
>
>Just playin' with ya!
Rog
Go play with the dog you were talking about!
