Hi Platt,

You said:
"So, I take it the rule we must follow says we can "arrest" terrorists only
after they act and no attempt should be undertaken to annihilate them before
they make London into a spot on the ground that glows in the dark. The rule
of war, "kill or be killed" does not apply. Such a pacifist approach is
hopeless naive."

If you apply a dichotomy of the known/unknown to the term 'terrorist' you
soon find yourself in a situation where it becomes impossible to wage war on
all of terrorism.
However, there remains room enough to wage war on known terrorists. This I
support. The tyranny of the Taliban must be overcome. And America should
give them democracy because that is what America knows as best. Let nation
touch nation!
*BUT*, to wage war on the unknown is a separate thing altogether. 'War', I
think, is not the appropriate term to use here. We have heard, seen, felt,
the symptoms. Now let us discover the disease. Because only by treating the
disease may we rid ourselves of these symptoms. Remember, symptoms are the
bodies solution to the problem, not the problem itself.
