Platt, Rob, All,
Platt:
You responded well to my post. I'll just say a few things.
<< If I killed the invader just because I considered him an infidel, that
would be immoral. Do you agree? >>
Yes I do. Maybe this would be considered moral in the primitive villages you
referenced, where outsiders can be seen as a threat to the Dynamic
capabilites of the village, but definitely not in modern times.
The Afghans never gave power to Bin Laden, as you said in your post. The
Taliban overthrew the government, exiled the king, and began brainwashing its
citizens with fundamentalist dogma.
Rob,
I agreed with your statements as well. Osama bin Laden has no right to be
angered at Afghan civilians murdered when the Taliban themselves line up
women and shoot them in the back of the head for not covering themselves
properly in public. Only those who care for humanity have the right to be
angered.
In my local paper yesterday, an article was printed about "The Boy who Cried
Muslim." It was about a Muslim college student who made up stories about
being discriminated against in order to elicit sympathy from the public.
Does this not remind you of the Civil Rights Movement, when journalists tried
to weed out violent and illogical proponents in order to devalue its meaning?
Of course, this is not to say that Muslims are facing the extent of
discrimination that African Americans faced in the 50's and 60's, and I
certainly hope that it doesn't become that way. Thankfully, the media and
the government are doing a good job of dispelling much of the ignorance about
Muslim culture that is prevalent in the US.
