In this area Popper's work sure helped me. He argues that most
philosophy and in particular metaphysical claims are beyond the realm of
complete, absolute, empirical "testing". However particular positions
can be "better" argued for, and others against, such that it is more
reasonable, rational, and 'good' to hold the first "better" position. At
least until something "better" comes along.
