ANY system, political, economic, philosophical...they are ALL corruptible,
because they are run by human beings (maybe that will change in the near
future when good-intentioned folks put computer chips in our brains to link
us up to a master moral computer--now is that psychotic speculation or is it
possible?). As Pirsig clearly states, in THEORY socialism is more moral than
capitalism. There's a big difference between theory and real life, and to
ignore the pragmatic viewpoint is foolhardy.
America is capitalistic, and it always has been. Through generations of hard
work and innovation, we EVENTUALLY became the richest nation on earth. So our
wealth wasn't attained overnight. We proved, through *perseverance*, that our
system worked. So these other "poor" nations are just where America herself
was many generations ago. Eventually, if they work hard enough and long
enough (and have the incentive to innovate), their nations can prosper as
well!
