Thanks John.
I appreciate your taking the time to respond to my postings.

Well, i feel i have, 'Got it out of my system' so to speak; and i don't feel
so hostile towards you any more.
In future, you may expect more serious responses from me.

I guess i just had to go through all that angry stuff?
All the best,
Squonk.

 Hullo Squonk,

 Just for the record...

JOHN B: "See Pirsig's little story on 'Cruising Blues and Their Cure,'"

SQUONK: "The word, 'Little' reveals your contempt for the man and his
 ideas."

Wrong. The word 'little' (no capitals) refers to the length of the story
which prints out in under five pages.

My contempt for this story was such that I immediately printed out a copy
for my best friend, who is a yachtsman, and which I am presenting to him for
christmas. I am also considering using it as the basis for a discussion in
the monthly discussion group I organise.

If you could read what I write without blinkers, you might notice I actually
said to 'see' this story, and then quoted it at length and generally
 approvingly.

But hey, who tells you to read my stuff anyway? If it gives you indigestion,
 don't read it.

But admit it, you are secretly attracted, aren't you? Deep down you have to
keep coming back, just as the people who really irk us are revealing
something we actually know quite well in ourselves, but choose not to face.
Plus you obviously enjoy being a cyber warrior, and belting all us lesser
mortals into submission. So let me concede defeat. You obviously have the
truth and I don't. Just allow me to carry on in my muddled search for
meaning, which happens to focus on Pirsig because he did say something I
still find valuable, and because I quite enjoy teasing out what is of low
quality in his books, and in the process refining the small but significant
nugget of value that I also find there.

Two other points. Thinking is not attending.

The last thing I want to do is to create or build 'character'.

 Regards,

 John B
