Hi Jon,

There is a bit more than character assassination going on. Although I seem
to recall that when I joined the list (last May) it was at the tail end of
another bad-tempered argument, which seemed to have something of substance
going on underneath, but which led to one fairly influential person (that's
my impression) dropping out and leaving.

Perhaps (thinking about the chaos stuff that's often talked about here)
there is some sort of periodicity involved, so that every six months or so
there has to be some sort of purgative and vituperative argument between
people, which cleanses the system of an accumulation of soft and gentle
mutual admiration. Because there's quite a lot of that going on as well!

And of course, in the midst of all this, there are some enjoyable searches
for higher Quality arguments more-or-less related to the MoQ. Which is
presumably what you're here for? If you don't like the bad-tempered stuff,
screen it out. It tends to follow a particular thread name.

I hope you (and all the other newbies hovering in the shadows) feel happy to
stick around. Speaking for myself, I really think it's worth it.

Sam
