Greetings one and all,

Though I've not been one to post this past year or two, I feel compelled to
tell you all just how much it means to me to know you are out there. The
MOQ has become a part of my internal philosophy; as natural as spring water,
refreshing and clear, it guides me toward greater understanding as I seek
greater understanding of it.

I hear that Diana has left and I am saddened. For those of you that remain,
know that you are always in my heart. When I think of Daddy, I also think
of you.

Now, forward into the fray!

Erin writes:
Another way to describe the relation between knowledge and will is as a
dichotomy between not-I and I, or between object and subject. The border
between them is defined by the phrase ``I can''. Indeed, the content of our
knowledge is independent of our will in the sense that we cannot change it
by
simply changing our intentions or preferences. On the contrary, we can
change
our intentions without any externally observable actions. We call it our
will.
It is the essence of our ``I''.

Hmmmm. I want. I can. I do. I believe. I feel. I know. Is our will
the essence of our I, or only one aspect of it? Is the border (which I
question the existence of) between knowledge and will only defined by 'I
can'? What about I feel, I believe, I want - and even I know? Isn't it
true that what we feel, believe, can do, want, and know are affected by an
interplay between what we believe we know and what we have the will - the
impetus - for? If you use the knife to divide between knowledge and will by
saying one is object and the other subject, you have split the whole person
into 2 parts, neither of which can survive without the other; and, if that
is the case, then both must in some way be one and the same. The person
without either will or knowledge does not exist. You can't introduce me to
one; just as an atom without a nucleus does not exist. If you show me one,
you are showing me something else. Something that is not an atom. Your
thoughts?

Wishing you happiness,
Mary
