Glad it helped. Now that I've had more time to think
of it, I would say that in most cases, memory is
actually the awareness of pattern recognition. Any
scientist would agree that patterns exist everywhere
in nature whether they are recognized or not, but once
we do become aware of these patterns, they are stored
for future reference. That is memory. And you make a
good point about memory existing at inorganic levels.
I'm not familiar with the example you are thinking of,
but it sounds completely possible. I hope someone
else is reading this and can help on the matter!
Memory actually looks like it can be used as a synonym
for the term "static latch." It's the platform for
the process of evolution. Memory must occur on all
levels in order to achieve any sort of Dynamic
Quality. Whether it's simple chemical fusion,
biological reproduction, or even higher, all change is
based on static latches--memory. Without memory,
evolution has no direction to go.
Thanks for the ideas. This is a topic well worth
thinking about!
Raymond
