That particular brand of modernism is was not my favorite either, but
the twin towers over their life had rose to icon status for NYC. IMHO
rebuilding is a kind of an in your face gesture to terrorism. Sheath the
inside of those special floors with your bronze obits.
Nothing like this will happen. The real estate is so valuable in that
area that the terrorists did the developers a favor. They demoed them
and the government is clearing the site. A real estate dream. When it is
all said an done years from now there will be a token plaza somewhere
with a politically correct statue with even bigger skyscrapers towering
over it. And they'll have ten gazzillion more square feet than the
towers contained. To appeal to our liberal friends the new-scapes should
be designed by a struggling Saudi architect. : - (
