MD intellect and imagination

apologies if this is old ground...

where does imagination fit into things?

 i have been thinking about the intellectual level a bit lately and at the mo' the closest analogue i have is 'consciousness'.  when we plan or analyse we are - consciously - playing within the laws of reason, but when we imagine we sometimes bend or even break these rules.

 is imagination a 'window for DQ'?  is intellect necessary for imagination? how do dreams and imagination relate?
