I agree. Furthermore, you laid down the gauntlet when you wrote:

By contrast, I think it's pretty clear that Pirsig is essentially attacking
well known forces like the Americans for Democratic Action, the Sierra
Club, the Great Society, Clintonism and a whole host of other crypto-
communist movements just like them in other countries.

No argument there. I only hope our European friends are willing to join
us in securing these rights against threats by despotic nations building
weapons of mass destruction and soon capable of delivering them
anywhere in the world.
