Hey 3WD and Erin and all,
3WD:
"Intellect is all the laws derived from and used to interpret experience."
Or
Intellect ='s "the laws of experience"
RICK:
I don't particularly like 'the laws of experience'. But I think, the first
formulation is quite good. Maybe...
inorganic = "laws of nature"
organic = "laws of the jungle"
social = "the law"
intellectual = "laws derived from and employed to interpret DQ"
This would satisfy Jonathan's desire that the [blank] reflect the
self-referential character of intellect. It would also confirm Platt and
Rog's intuitions that the [blank] includes notions of logic and math and
science which also are the applications of laws and rules derived from
experience of DQ. As are Marco and Wim's human rights. Scott and Horse's
notions of reason are similarly satisfied. 3WD's 'law of laws' is
accomodated as well. Even Erin's more recent notion of 'schemas'.
Of the contributions, the only ones I question are those that suggested the
element of 'freedom' (Erin's original guess, part of Scott's). I would
guess that Pirsig would associate notions of freedom directly with Dynamic
Quality itself and not Intellectual Quality... (Unless you were just talking
about 'political freedoms' like speech, press and assembly.)

RICK:
If I'm not mistaken, Pirsig refers to the 'code of art' as a 5th level.
Right?
