Rick, Erin,

GLENN
In typical Pirsig fashion, he simultaneously does and doesn't think there
is something mystical or supernatural about the light.

RICK
Maybe he's not contradicting himself. Maybe he just equates
'nonobjectivity' with mysticism. That is, there's nothing 'mystical' about
the light other than it gets cut off by objectivity.

He says nonobjectivity lets you see the D. light, but this doesn't
necessarily bring on the mysticism. The mysticism is 'associated' with it
'often'. The unusual behaviour of the light (that it shows up around some
objects and not others) is not grounded in an objective physical
explanation (that I know of), but he doesn't admit to this or he just
didn't bother to comment on it.

Maybe he dances around the contradiction by saying that the light for the
D. effect is not supernatural at its source, but that its behaviour in the
presence of DQ, perhaps only a split second later, is.

ERIN:
Maybe Pirsig is contradicting himself and that is not such a bad thing...

I could write a long post on this attitude but suffice it to say,
if you appreciate the value of a dialectic argument, you will
understand the importance of consistency of thought.

ERIN:
I just read and really lilked J. Marder essay on the forum "The End of
Causality"

I suppose Jonathan's paper resonated with you in some 'acausal' way.
