Wim, Erin, Others
Wim:
I would like to know to which questions you are refering, are these the ones
you have previously stated, or others?
Erin:
I too am confused as to what progress is!, but am starting to want to
state/define certain circumstances in which possible progress may be made...
These are ( for now anyway):-
1 A willingness to be open to new ideas, such as the MOQ
It is only with an open mind are we likely to progress to a society, in
which new patterns of value are acceptable.
2 A willingness to leave behind those patterns which hinder openness
Almost impossible, too many people have too much time/money invested in
keeping these patterns alive and valid, no matter how restricting
they are in keeping the status quo, governments, political parties and
organised religions rule here.
3 A propogation of new patterns which actively promote openness
Unfortunately education as it stands, merely recounts all old patterns, and
imbues them with added value, there is no way around our own history, only
if we had no history, no mythos, could we begin to promote those ideas which
allow new understanding
As you can see the hurdles to progress are gargantuan, and it would take the
greatest event to cataylse them, I cannot envisage any circumstances in
which any of these would occur, other than the unthinkable, a cataclysmic
war or natural disaster which destroyed almost everything ...... such as a
large meteor hitting the earth, disease on a massive scale etc......
anything that leaves us with a clean slate.
I am not sure if mankind is above society, but it seems right to me that it
is, in the future history of mankind, it may well be that such a calamity,
is that which eventually saves us.
I think I'm more confused now then before I started!!!!!!!!
Although now I think about it, there is a certain charm to the cosmos
dealing out judgement in the form of a massive asteroid........
now where did I put that telescope!!!!
