No they didn't. They said it would improve the health service for the MAJORITY. Which
it did.

Who said this and when? As far as I'm aware the reason for banning hand guns was to
reduce the risk of armed insurrection. The UK government didn't want an armed
population. It's as simple as that.

I'd agree with you here and say that the 'war' in Afghanistan (which the US declared) is
a prime example.
