Dear Angus,

I liked your 9/4 1:22 -0700 Jungian analysis of 'Lila' (and 'lila'). You
'show' versus 'say' disctinction has also gotten more flesh for me now.
Thanks.

You wrote 'I too miss the activism and I
worry about Wim's progress dialectics POV.'
Could you explain your worry?

You advised John B. 'Let "love" in the situation dictate.'
That reminds me of the first two 'Advices' from 'The book of Christian
discipline of the Yearly Meeting of Religious Society of Friends (Quakers)
in Britain' (from which I have quoted before on this list):
'1. Take heed, dear Friends, to the promptings of love and truth in your
hearts. Trust them as the leadings of God whose Light shows us our darkness
and brings us to new life.
2. Bring the whole of your life under the ordering of the spirit of Christ.
Are you open to the healing power of God's love? Cherish that of God within
you, so that this love may grow in you and guide you. Let your worship and
your daily life enrich each other. Treasure your experience of God, however
it comes to you. Remember that Christianity is not a notion but a way.'
Does that speak to your condition? If not, what if you substitute 'DQ' for
'God', 'wisdom' for 'the spirit of Christ' and 'Philosophy' (as
distinguished from 'Philosophology' ...) for 'Christianity'?

You wrote 'there needs to be a call to action beyond love'.
I agree in a sense: that's the promptings of 'truth'. (Mind you: 'truth' is
not meant in the narrow intellectual sense of the 'fit' of ideas with
'reality'.)
I disagree in another sense: the promptings of 'love' and 'truth' should not
be seen as separate and one part of them not as being beyond the other part.
DQ implies both breaking/changing static patterns of values and creating new
ones (transcending and including).

A favourite expression of Quakers relating to this needed 'call to action'
and these 'promptings of truth' is at the same time a description of a type
of action: 'speaking truth to (those in) power (in love)'. I have not done
much of that yet in my writings for this list. In a sense the 'action' needs
to be 'beyond love', because without 'love' or a sense of connectedness
action will fail.

With friendly greetings,

Wim
