I know that Chomsky is a highly respected psycholinguist, but his personal
view on the MidEast are not necessarily relevant. If Israelis and
Palestinians have the motivation, there is no way Uncle Sam can stop it
happenning. But if there is no motivation the USA won't be able to force
peace. The best the US can do is to facilitate - and if Chomsky thinks
otherwise, he is mistaken.

Note that the USA had no part in initiating Sadat's visit to Jerusalem, nor
the Oslo process. The USA was able to jump on the bandwagon and take the
credit mostly because of its willingness to bankroll the subsequent
agreements.
