what is the solution (moq or otherwise) to the mid-east?
well first let's make some basic points clear:

1. to treat the mid-east in isolation from the rest of the world is naive
and will not help at all.

2. what is the strategic value of the mid-east?
its oil.

3. so one approach is to move away from oil dependency....less demand for
oil = less oppression in the mid-east, nigeria, afghanistan etc.

what i am trying to show by this is that the solutions to problems in our
world lie within *our* reach. they are not external to us, they are a
reflection of us.

we can all masturbate to our heart's content on this list but we will
achieve nothing if we don't translate our words into actions. if we are here
to defend our views and rail against opposing ideas....well go ahead but i'd
rather spend my time doing something constructive.

in other words the problems of the world today are *our* problems. the
solutions to these problems lie in *our* lives. th ehigh quality
intellectual pattern that is democracy is the starting point. without
democracy we reduce the flow of intellectual value to a trickle.
oh and guys NONE OF US LIVE IN A DEMOCRACY. the most dangerous threat to
democracy is the notion that it has already been achieved.

you reach a point where you realise that unless you follow your own path -
an authentic freely chosen life, aware of your responsibilities and the
consequences of your (in)action - that you will be unhappy/unfulfilled. your
wellbeing is inextricably linked to the wellbeing of the world as a whole.
the good is good - not for you or someone else. altruism and selfishness are
concepts abstracted after the primary phenomenal experience of 'good'. good
after all is a noun.

tat tvam asi......until you really grasp this you don't grasp what pirsig is
on about.
