I understand mysticism to be the direct experience of "religious truths"
(for lack of a better word). Science is empiricism based only on the
senses, where as mysiticism is empiricism based on the full range of human
experiences. Love is not transmitted via photons or sound waves but i
experience it none the less, hence it is excluded to a large degree in
science but very important in much of mysticism. Also, to claim science
has nailed down everything we can sense into a few senses is quite an
assumption. I've heard some claim the we have a sixth sense of
proprioperception (spelled right? i dont know) which is our perception of
self, and how we can tell where our leg is without seeing or feeling it.
Also, i've heard some say that the brain is itself only a sensory organ
that, like a nose, picks up odors of thoughts and emotions. These are just
ideas. But because it isn't a photon doesnt mean its imaginary, meditation
reveals mystical truths about the world to many people, but just because it
is internal (although we dont know all the ways in which we communicate
with experience, perhaps it isnt internal), i wouldnt call it imaginary.
The quality event itself i believe is not limited to sight, sound, touch,
smell and taste. Sorry if i write too much, i'll try to keep it consice in
the future.
