Greetings, Sam,
My sense is that the Israeli-Palestinian confict has grown into a larger
threat. I think it unlikely that Sept 11 would have happened had it not
been for the ntaure of US support for Israel. With the emergence of
accessible weapons of mass destruction, we may be exposing our cities,
families and friends to far worse than Sept 11. I do also have good friends
in Israel, and am much concerned for their safety. Some of them are
horrified at what is going on, and at least one furious over the Jenin
situation, but their ability to understand what is going on, to see the
whole picture, is naturally lost amidst the chaos and pain. Thus while the
academics can spend their time defending or criticizing Israel, for me the
issue has practical importance. If--IF--the MOQ can shed insight on it,
that would be a great contribution.
Best regards,
Lawry

Hello Lawry,
Could you expand on your sentence: "You will appreciate that my interest in
this this is not
simply academic." Are you in fact professionally involved in studying these
matters? Is there a more personal involvement?
I'm not wanting to be nosy, it's just that (following ancient rhetoric
rather than the contemporary postmodernists) I do think that the context
helps to understand the text - the text in this case being your views set
out in your posts.
All the best,
Sam
