Hey Erin and all MOQers:
I posted a Pirsigism:
>All the laws of history, all the arguments, all the Constitutions and the
>Bills of Rights and Declarations of Independence are nothing more than
>instructions to the military and the police. If the military and police
>can't or won't follow these instructions properly they might as well have
>never been written.
Erin posted a Tom Robbins quote:
"Hawaii once had a rat problem. Then, somebody hit upon a brilliant
solution.
Import mongooses from India. Mongooses would kill the rats. It worked.
Mongooses did kill the rats. Mongooses also killed chickens, pigs, birds,
cats, dogs, and small children...In Hawaii there are as many mongooses as
there
were rats...
Society had a crime problem. It hired cops to attack crime. Now society has
a
cop problem."
DMB says:
Yep. This is the scary part. Where does one turn when those entrusted with
protecting human rights - whether they're cops or armies - are in fact
violators of human rights? As Pirsig points out, the legal documents that
refer to rights might as well have never been written. This cross fire
concerns me greatly and wish the author had given the problem even more
attention.
