Ideas and concepts are intellectual patterns of value. Therefore, the ideas
and concepts of north, south, east, and west as directions in space or on
the surface of the earth with reference to a particular point on the surface
are intellectual patterns. However, if you are discussing the cultures of
the West, or the cultures of the East, you would be discussing social
patterns.
