Dear Sam,

I agree with you 4/5 0:14 +0100 that 'people have quality per se' and not
'in so far as they are able to provide intellectual quality' (with the
qualification that strictly speaking 'Quality has people' and 'intellectual
quality provides people/personality' instead of the other way around).
I agree with you because limiting people's quality to intellectual quality
restricts our ability to experience (their) attempts to reach up to a yet
higher level of quality than the intellectual level. It is these attempts to
reach up to the next higher level of static quality (that has not found a
static latch yet) that help intellectual patterns of value to migrate toward
DQ, to (partly) break up and reform on a slightly higher level of DQ (but
still on the intellectual level).

People that barely reach up to the intellectual level (say mentally
handicapped people) are not equivalent with people grasping the highest
quality intellectual patterns of values if we measure them against our
static patterns of values. Still I don't rule out the possibility that
mentally handicapped and others barely reaching up to the intellectual level
have a role in jumping to the next higher level of static quality to be, so
even they have quality per se even if they are less than equivalent in an
intellectual sense.

I hesitate to enshrine the statement that 'people have quality per se' in a
metaphysics (i.e. in the MoQ). It is in itself an attempt to reach up to
higher-than-intellectual quality and an argument in the struggle between
intellectual patterns of values (or merely between different sets of ideas
conforming to the same -SOM- or MoQ-based- intellectual pattern of values).
The statement that humans have (implying that other animals haven't) quality
per se may limit our ability to experience some kinds of attempts to reach
up to a yet higher level of quality than the intellectual level... What do
you think about deep ecology, neo-animistic religion à la Wicca etc. ...?

With friendly greetings,

Wim
