Hi DMB
(Monday morning: In the meantime another crtitical post of my SOLAQI
has arrived so even this one is outdated)

In your salvo of posts you delivered the above verdict. I think it was
Erin who - as the umpteenth person at this discussion - pointed to the
impossibility of defining intellect, and my interpretation is an attempt at
a definition. Credit me for that at least. :-). It "...artificially narrows the
intellectual level... yes, it does, and narrowing is exactly what is needed
lest it grows into IT ALL.

Remember P. in LILA after hitting on the MOQ, trying all kinds of ways
to shoot it down without succeeding, that is my feeling too, but then it
depends on understabding ......always is.

The logic of this eludes me. The "ordinary" definition of intellect (if there
is one) is a sudden jump to an realm of ideas foreign to the Quality
sequence (where the "internalification" at least should be at the bio/soc
transition), while the SOL-intellect lifts the abstract quality of the
topmost social pattern (language) to a value level of its own. The "new"
definition by Pirsig leans in that direction, but I must think some more
about it.

An aside: I really enjoyed your dispute with Erin about "enlightenment"
although not sure of its finer points :-) ...and your following up on it. I
also agree with your comment to Elliot's comment about the
"manipulation of symbols". Something more could be said there though
so stand by!
