Hi Andre

Let me play along...

Andre:
Is Chaos making progess? A meteor could hit at any
time.

Rog:
I can't see anything progressive about Chaos. Nor about entropy. There may
be a direction to entropy, but I see no hint of progress. Do you? It is an
interesting thought though.

A:
Is biology making progress? Presumably. Although
"still adapting" might be better that "progress".

R:
I do not believe that biology or evolution are inherently progressive.
However, I think that progress is a potential within evolution. The analogy
I use is that saying "evolution is naturally progressive" is as silly as
saying "a die has a goal to roll a 6." Eventually, if you roll the die
enough, you will get a 6. Same with evolution. Eventually it progresses
toward more complexity and knowledge.

A:
(Maybe its a better word for society???)

R:
This one seems obvious. Societies can and have progressed toward enhanced
knowledge and complexity. Of course one element of progress is that every
new solution leads to the discovery of two new problems. Again though, I
don't think that society is drawn to inevitable progress. It sure seems to
be commonplace though when reviewing the last 10,000 years. It really could
all end LIKE THAT if we screw up though.

A:
Is intellect
making progess? I imagine there's someone having
Satori experience every minute. :)

R:
Science and math are certainly progressive. Probably the most progressive of
all the levels. Wouldn't you agree?
