Elliot:
Well, yes, i see your point, however, if either of these views (chritianity
or reason) are taken as unquestionable patterns then either can be deadly,
and if either is taken with an intellectual approach, either can be
liberating. Christianity brought us crusades and stonings and all sorts of
bad things. equally, Reason has brought a technological imparative into
society which also over rides individuals pursuits of Quality. And,
intellectually exploring the truths of cristianity, one finds that Love
(Quality) is the overriding force of the universe and that one should strive
for things which bring the greatest ammount of Love to people. Following
reason, one can come up with all sorts of great things as well. (both could
lead to something much like the MoQ i think, CS Lewis made an argument for
God which sounds alot like Pirsigs argument for Quality, the Christians
mostly seem to fall short however, as have scientists and other leaders of
reason).
Reason is a better social pattern that christianity, but all unnessecary
social patterns are of poor Quality in comparison to intellectual ones.
both reason and christianity can be practiced as either i believe.
Elliot
